The Great Migration of the ‘Blue Tigers’ around Ooty
It was a visual treat for our guests as millions of fascinating Dark Blue Tiger butterflies fluttered away. This breathtaking scene could be viewed right on our resort at Masinagudi, near Ooty, situated close to the Bandipur and Mudumalai forest reserve.
Millions of blue tiger along with the common crow butterflies are on their annual mass migration. During October to November these beautiful butterflies migrate in several millions passing through Bangalore to their final destination in the Nilgiris and Annamalais in the Western Ghats. They spend the post-monsoon, winter and summer seasons there, breed in the mountains and the progeny migrate back to the plains post-monsoon in March and May.
This butterfly migration is one of the most charming natural phenomena in southern India. So what you waiting for? Flutter right over! 🙂
